The Leader of the Opposition, The Hon Bill Shorten MP, has delivered his Budget-in-Reply address in the House of Representatives.
In his address, Mr Shorten indicated that the Opposition intended opposing some of the Government’s key Budget initiatives including:
- Changes to the Newstart allowance, which would require un-employed people under 30 years of age to wait six months before receiving benefits
- The deregulation of the universities sector; and

Treasurer Joe Hockey has released the National Commission of Audit, the first major stocktake of the Commonwealth Government’s functions and expenditure in almost 20 years.
